California Center For the Arts

Sacramento

The California Center of the Arts is a mixed-use performing arts and education campus envisioned as a cultural anchor for Sacramento's Railyard redevelopment. As Senior Designer, Wing Lee led the programming, conceptual design, and multidisciplinary design coordination for the project, shaping the vision from its earliest stages.

The development integrates four performance venues—a 1,500-seat theater, a 600-seat theater, a 200-seat flexible theater, and a 100-seat flexible theater—around the California Academy of the Arts, creating a collaborative environment where professional performing arts organizations, students, and the public converge through shared cultural experiences.

Residential units are positioned above the educational and retail components, fostering a vibrant live-work community within the emerging arts district. Inspired by the site's industrial heritage, the architecture reinterprets the historic railyard's material palette through a contemporary architectural language that reinforces the district's evolving identity.
